A few weeks ago Steve Ballmer unveiled the HP “Slate” during the CES keynote speech. Since then there has be some interesting updates regarding the upcoming Slate.
The HP Slate will have a 10-inch LCD screen, Windows 7, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB port(s) and integrated camera. Other than that a tipster informed Gizmodo it might have an Intel Atom Z540 1.86Ghz, 32GB or 64GB storage of some kind and somewhere between $500-$600.

Unlike the Apple iPad (which is still incredible), the HP Slate will have Adobe Flash support since it will be using Windows 7, HP TouchSmart Apps and/or Google’s Android OS. It also has USB ports and an integrated camera, which the iPad lacks.
The HP Slate–although not its official name–is expected to come out later this year. For now take a look at the videos from HP below:
So, we can make an iPad the way it was supposed to be made with this!
Sadly, if history is any predicter, HP will quickly discontinue any version of the Slate that runs anything other than Windows. It looks to me like HP has made some good decisions with the Slate in areas where I think Apple went wrong, but if HP forces us to run Windows, I won’t be buying one. MIE was a nice idea, but it’s already gone. Moblin isn’t anywhere near ready for prime time, and I’m sure the popular Linux distributions will still be hampered by a lack of drivers for all the new hardware.
At least I can be sure Apple will support the iPad.
@Michael,
Your statement about being sure that Apple will support the iPad is sort of contradictory to what you’re saying will prevent you from purchasing an HP Slate.
Sure Apple will support the iPad. As long as you don’t install a linux, windows, android, or other OS on it. Just like HP will support their slate as long as you don’t mess with their stock OS.
Kind of a silly rant brother.
Michael messed up badly there.
Hardly. Apple will support the iPad with an OS that is *not* Windows. In fact, Apple is the only company that is proven to support a consumer device with an OS other than Windows, and succeed. HP needs to demonstrate that it will do more than suck off Microsoft before I’ll be willing to commit to their platform.
Actually HP demonstrates freedom while Apple demonstrates DRM and limited applications that even requires tuff checks before it is allowed.
