The HP “Slate” has not even come out yet and forum member Sebas310 is already working on an OS for the Slate and wants our ideas and suggestions.
Sebas310 said in the forums that he is currently working on a “Slate” only OS that is based of Ubuntu. The HP Slate should be able to run this new OS–assuming its setup will allow installing new operating systems (just like any computer).
He has also asked all of us to tell him what we’d like to see in his “Slate” distro. Please help him out by giving him your ideas and support!

I own a mini 311 that I mostly use with Ubuntu. After trying different options I found that Boxee is a great media center software that smoothly plays videos I had trouble playing with VLC. The interface (10 ft type) should be great for a tablet pc.
1. Ubuntu, Ubuntu, Ubuntu. (or some form of linux.)
Hi there!
I think it should be a heavily modified debian. like kanotix. with a kde. 3 or 4 less hardware consumpting would be the 3(KDE).
Just a nice interface or maybe with a whole new Window Manager that is somehow kdelike but where the windows themselves(not the apps) respond to gestures. I have concrete visions on that gui. If you want some more ideas or sketches contact me via email. I really dont understand the post with that windows7 idea.. had installed win on an old pentium4 2.8 GHZ… that was cruel
but then i installed a modified debian on it and it ran like hell,.. it booted faster.
with “debian stable”, i had no crashes and when i started an app it imediately was open in a new clean window…. not like windows
(wait for hours to boot and when it is booted wait another 10min until you can start firefox which comes up like my grandma is taking a hundred stairs.)
…
And the other thing is why would i run some software that is for graphic-pros on a Slate??? I dont think any pro who has legally bought cs4 for a 1.400 Dollars would use it seriously on a slate….???
So the Deal is.. it has to be optical attractive… it has to come with some standard apps preinstalled(that the kdefolk at trolltech would provide, and which you could modify without any permission… bla bla bla… really want to know some more of my ideas for a real good peace of hardware/software…?
i could write on here endlessly…. but i am no romancer…
buy me… get in contact … or just forget it.
Kind Regards, Peter!
looks like an iPad or JooJoo, UI like an IPad, but Windows7, hardware extendable

Windows 7, Windows 7, Windows 7,
All my apps like Adobe CS4 run on windows so that’s the only OS I want running on it. Just because the hardware is simplified doesn’t mean I want a simplified OS.
The great thing about win7 is it supports mult-touch but the interface doesn’t lend itself to a multi-touch user experience. Take a look at creating your own shell from litestep or window blinds. Then people will be able to use windows with a more touch friendly experience that you design. Just how HP made their own interface for their mult-touch desktop.
