Experience: WINDOWS 7 ON 1035NR

New postby HYE_TECH » Fri Jan 23, 2009 8:51 am

I just got my Hp Mini 1035nr the other day and I absolutely love it. I first was using the stock XP with it. I didn't have any gripes about it at first, just a little things about it, the 2 min start up and the long shutdown. Nothing's wrong with that though, I'm not impatient.

I was reading reviews about windows 7 on it, mostly positive ones and I wanted to give it a shot, I'm already using Windows 7 on my main laptop and I love it. Its very quick, so I wanted to test it out on my mini. The first time wasn't very exciting, I had a driver incompatibility issue screen come up and it restarted the mini into safe mode. I was kind of wary. Then my sounds and trackpad had issues. Then I stumbled upon this cool site (myhpmini.com) and was reading the forums. Very helpful.

I didn't like 7 at first running on it, I tried to reinstall XP back on but no luck. I was trying to network the XP cd from my main laptop to the mini. I couldn't reinstall it, I don't have a usb flash drive large enough for the reinstall. I didn't have enough time to look up how to reinstall windows xp back on so I just stuck with Windows 7...

When I first got the Mini, I had it tethered to my TMobile G1...absolutely awesome. When I decided to keep Windows 7, I had problems trying to install the necessary drivers for me to tether it. I finally figured it out, its works and I love it. I would highly recommend anybody to upgrade. At certain times, it does seem a little sluggish but not that much. It might be the ram, I plan on upgrading it to 2gb this weekend and that should do the trick and make this mini even more "hotttter"

If you guys are looking for cheap RAM....here's a site for you...

It was $25 but now it went up to $29 but you get a $15 mail in rebate...not bad....$14 after

I'm running 7 on my 1035NR and love it! I upgraded the RAM to 2GB and it runs flawlessly. The only issue that I am having right now is that I am unable to use my Bluetooth mouse, but I should be able to get that back up and running in no time. Personally I feel that 7 runs smoother than XP on the mini, but regardless I am much happier using 7 than XP. Keep us posted on your experience!!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm running 7 and have been very happy with it.

One note - the RAM you linked to on NewEgg is actually 2 X 1GB sticks. Make sure you get 1 2GB stick. Got mine at amazon for $24.

Yes making sure its the right ram is very important. It makes a huge difference though. Aside from the work I do in Photoshop or Lightroom, I can pretty much use the Mini as my everyday machine using Windows 7.

Yeah. Windows 7 is pretty awesome. I'm hoping that when it is officially released that it will not be super expensive, but if it is, maybe our Mac on the Mini guys will have that all sorted out and easy to install. That would be awesome as well. Also, you might want the mic to be fixed, here's how to. Anyway, enjoy 7 until August 1st!

I was thinking of getting a macbook but ever since i tried out windows 7, I absolutely love it. My other laptop is running XP. When Vista first came out, I was actually going to buy it 'cause people were actually waiting for it but I did the smart thing and waited. I'm glad I did because usually I'm an impatient guy when it comes to my tech toys and etc...My friend bought a new laptop with Vista....I hated it...everything about it just urked me...

I wanted something a lot more portable than what I have now, so I bought this Mini1035. I love it and I knew from day one I was gonna run Windows 7 on it.

I just installed my new 2gb RAM and it's even better. Office 07 is much quicker. Pretty much everything is up.
If you haven't done so, I recommend the update. It's worth the $25....

I would like to remind everyone that the PRIMARY difference between windows Vista and 7 lies underneath in how it handles and manages system resources and its effects on battery life. The user interface (minus the new taskbar) is pretty similar to Vista. If you ran Vista on a faster machine and all your drivers were fully compatible, and you turned off the User Account Control, you have something similar in your satisfaction to Windows 7

I just upped Windows 7 from Build 7000 to 7022...I wanted to know if anybody did that...

I read that their were UI differences and IE8 RC,

I just upgraded it (no fresh install) but it seems to hog more resources than build 7000, CPU and RAM...

I want to do a fresh install to see what happens but I don't have the patience to backup everything again...I did so much on the MINI
