Thanks for the update again. Do you plan on making it all "one" piece?

That's the plan. Mod the lid and put it on top of the screen as well as add some kind of a spacer between the top and bottom of the case. (that's the plan at least)

Truly a thing of beauty! Good luck with the tablet. Could you do some of us a favor before you button her up though? Could you lay the original glass screen over the touch screen and see if the touch sensitivity is high enough for it to still function? If it does, could you shoot a brief video?

I've always wanted to add touch to mine but never wanted to lose the edge to edge glass look.

Again, good luck!

I doubt that the touchscreen will work with the glass. But I have another question - I tried using my mini sideways - holding it like a book, but the display changes contrast a lot side-to-side when you hold it like this. My question is if it gets any better with the "glass" removed...

My bet is likely not, because the screen was designed to have a very good top to bottom viewing angle but not side to side. The sweet spot seems too close to the center for much side to side when sitting on end like you describe. I can't quite tell from the video Tim posted, so I could be totally off.

Yep, they are fully compatible. I downloaded drivers from http://home.eeti.com.tw/web20/eGalaxTouchDriver/MacOSXIntelDriver.htm, works like a charm! I can even use OS X InkWell for handwriting.
I posted some pictures of my mod at http://www.westernlightsphoto.com/blog/ ... uchscreen/

Very cool. So you will be making a new case for it, right?

yes, i'll be making some sort of new case... now i kind of want to do an anodized aluminum top enclosure.

whatever i do, i'll make sure my designs are uploaded somewhere for people to see and use in their own projects. I'll do a detailed internal mod video after i get the screen mounted how i want it and i get some other things buttoned up. I'm finishing up my internship at Apple tomorrow and i'll be back at school this weekend.

i'll keep you guys updated! and i'll do a guide/how-to when all is said and done.

I don't know if you could give the top part a try, but fiberglass can work wonders and you can make it into whatever you want. Good job it's nice to see that this is coming together.

i've never worked fiberglass before so I'm a little apprehensive to do that.

i'll definitely consider it, although i imagine i'll go with aluminum.

also i'm a bit worried about how fiberglass would wear.... IIRC it's not the strongest of composites.
