They told me to take the notebook apart to solve the issue of the bios password (wasn't needed to fix that issue but hey they suggested this over what I did)... And on how to use the mini 1000 with the touchscreen I suggest turning the notebook sideways and holding it like a tablet for writing and doodling. That so far seems the way I think it will be best to use next to just using in place of the touchpad for things.. Esp since I'm running ubuntu for on the go and windows for at home.

also here is the kind of touchscreen I ended up getting, I wanted solder kit for a good reason... The HP has a free port on the hub so I will just have to solder the wire on.

Didn't see that the link didn't get posted.. lol

Anyways, good news and even better news!

My touchscreen will be picked up tomorrow because I missed the postman (its running on time from overseas wow!) and my new hd cam will be here so I'll be able to not only do pictures but supply video on this mod.

I'm going to be tearing down my notebook tonight, does anyone need any other pictures of the inside of it while I'm in there and poking around?

Also for now I'm going to bypass the mobile drive for this guide, I'll write up another guide for installing your own USB bluetooth and a larger usb stick or allowing a plug to be usable. (I'm looking at one of those 32+GB if I can get one to fit.)

since I ordered one of the thicker touchscreens (I wanted it to not crack as easy lol) I may have to heat the bezel up to get it to fit.. but should actually level out all the warped plastic on this notebook.

Just a little update as I'm still working on things..

I've got the bezel apart, and the screen so far seems like it will fit in there with some room to spare.. Also our wireless antennas aren't too good.. Just got a first hand look at them. The only bad news is that I wont be able to fit the screen controler into the bezel.. its just a hair too big and with the lcd there I'm not going to force it. If anyone (like myself) is looking for a place to stash maybe an extra usb memory stick inside the case or even add another plug... There is plenty of room in there for it on my 8.9.

Sorry for the delay guys, I installed the touchscreen and it fits in the bezel without any issue.. I managed to get the bezel off without even pulling the notebook apart just to size up the touchscreen..

Well the bad news is now my notebook wont close properly.. it already had a slight issue with not shutting completely and the bezel making some contact with keys when contact was applied.. this has become worse but I think someone used a more thin panel you wouldn't have to worry about it. I am just going to add some rubber stops to the bezel and see about extending the hinge a little.

Could you please provide some pics on how the wireless antenna's are mounted and which way round, as I intend to replace them, also when the bezel is off a picture of the left side and right side of the screen as I need to see how much space there is to mount WWAN Antenna's, as that is where they are suppose to be mounted...

Also any hints to remove the bezel to get to the screen would be nice..., did you put the plastic covering back on to, that sits on top of the screen/bezel?, can you not use it without the cover?

What exactly needs soldering for the touch screen?

Sorry still waiting on my camera, the weather caused even more of a delay on shipping.

I have the 8.9" without the wwan, so I have loads of room for things to install in there, when my camera arrives I'll have the pictures.. this weather sucks  As for the bezel it isn't needed at all to run the notebook, its just a protective and cosmetic cover I'd suggest installing it again. I will have to mod the lid for us to have safely usable touchscreen, that or find a company that makes a screen that is extremely thin...
Which at that point I might as well just go buy another notebook.. I'm going to play with it a bit more tonight, I'll see if I can borrow a cam for making a quick guide but my plan was to make a video with my new camera.

I don't think any soldering will be needed, not counting making my new usb cable and extending the cable for the screen controller.

How do you remove the speaker grill, in the service manula it says "Squeeze the sides of the speaker grill together to release the pressure clips, and then remove the speaker grill", but it's not working squeeze in what way?

I haven't taken the speaker apart yet, I'd assume it pops apart like any other pieces.. Though I cut the pieces of the bezel off that are along the speaker grill as they bent the bezel badly.
