Mac OS X on the HP Mini: Turn it into a MacBook Mini!

ok, so here's what I do for fresh iDeneb install updated to 10.5.7 with everything working - on my HP Mini 1001TU, that is.

1) Install iDeneb 10.5.5 - ICHx; ACPI; Cpus=1 fixes (I don't bother to specify video as IntelGMA950 since this will be taken care of later anyhow)
2) After install, once in OS X (resolution still squashed 600 x 480), enable root user (Directory Utility > Edit > Enable Root User) and login to root.
3) Install OSx86_Essentials on your main OS X HDD, checking "Apply kexts" and "PC_EFI Chameleon". Run DSDT patcher and make sure there's a copy of the resulting "dsdt.aml" file in your "/" directory and your root's home folder. While you're still logged in as root, (don't apply all the kexts yet) instead go to my Extensions folder and delete the ff:
- AppleIntelGMA950.kext
- AppleIntelGMAGA.plugin
- AppleIntelGMA950GLDriver.bundle
- AppleIntelGMA950VADriver.bundle
- AppleIntelIntegratedFrameBuffer.kext
- ApplePS2Controller.kext
- AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext (if it's there in your Extensions folder)
4) Run the 10.5.7 Combo Updater (you can do this while still logged in as root or switch to your own user account; I usually switch to my user from this point onward). Do not restart yet after update installation is don. Install VoodooPS2Controller first. Restart.
5) You'll be back at your desktop, resolution is still squashed but your keyboard/trackpad will be functional. Install the kexts. Restart.

Note: you can opt to install the kexts batch by batch; i.e. vid kexts first, then network related kexts, then system kexts like sleep, OpenHaltRestart, etc., so on and so forth or, if you want, one by one, restarting your mini after each kext application just to be sure/diagnosis purposes. Coz sometimes, when I install them all at once, not all become functional immediately - in which case, I just re-apply the kexts and restart and so far, that's worked fine on my setup.

I also disable deep sleep to get rid of the "sleepimage has garbage" message on boot up and also regain HDD space.
In terminal:
$ sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
then delete sleepimage file in /Private/var/vm.

Here are all the stuff I used on my mini (click them to download):
> video kexts
> all the other kexts
> VoodooPS2Controller installer
> my dsdt.aml (just in case)

hope this helps :)

here's my experience so far via retail on 2140.

updated to 10.5.7 via the combo update but now the fans doesnt work, it's on when im in log in screen via chameleon but after that it will turn off.

so now my problems are:

fan = totally off when im in osx
sleep= it wont wake up, it' just stuck at the black screen (sleep doesnt work on 10.5.6 but the screen will wake up once you open the lid and press any key)
ethernet = well this one didnt work on 10.5.6 so im ok with it

anyone can help me?

@Maurien: Thx again for your help!

I installed all your kexts again but the problem remains. Guess there's no way around installing the whole system again, must be somehow related to another file that gets installed during OSX installation i guess :(

EDIT: After reading through a hell of a lot different forums / threads, it seems that there's a chance that even a new installation won't solve my problem. I found several other ppl that could get sleep working only by swapping their ram. So the question is, Maurien, has your sleep ever worked with your old 1GB ram (If not, maybe you could try if it's working now.) ?
Cause if it hasn't, I guess the only chance of getting this to work is buying some other 2GB ram module, would be great if you could tell me the exact type and manufacturer of yours Maurien.

thx and greetings

@dornadeluxe: no probs. my 2 gig ram stick is Transcend PC-667. I also thought all along you were on 2 gb ram.

Try using then the old kexts from voluptuary - specially EHCISleepEnabler. I've had experience with 1 gb ram when I experimented with 10.5.7 update about a week ago;

What I noticed is that 1 gig ram on stock iDeneb - that's 10.5.5 - would sleep/resume well. I'm assuming that's courtesy of EHCISleepEnabler.kext but if you update to 10.5.6, sleep breaks but it makes adjusting screen brightness via the fn + F combo keys. This sleep prob I could only resolve then by upgrading to 2 gb ram (and still with help of EHCISleepEnabler). After that I updated to 10.5.7, now with 2 gb ram, sleep broke again.

Before I learned about VoodooUSBEHCI, I'd tried to swap back in my old 1 gb ram just to see what would happen and if I remember correctly, 1 gb ram + 10.5.7 should sleep/resume just fine with the EHCISleepEnabler kext. (I got the old vid kexts working too that time).

Now on 10.5.7, I can only get sleep/resume working with 2 gigs ram via VoodooUSBEHCI and modified IOUSBFamily. Also, I couldn't get the resolution fixed (1024 x 600 instead of squashed 600 x 480) with the vid kexts from the same kext bundle.

So in my case, 2 gb ram + 10.5.7 = having to use VoodooUSBEHCI for sleep and swapping/using some other vid kext.

good luck. :)
