Netbookinstaller and the hp mini 110

New postby blehmann » Wed Aug 19, 2009 11:16 am

I hacked a dell mini 9 for my daughter last month and I want to do the same on the hp mini 110, in part because of the hd screen. Has anybody here tried the netbookinstaller created by Meklort and bmaltais, two superb citizens on that board? It can be found at:

http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/mac-os- ... eased.html

It requires an apple retail mac os x disk and works smoothly on the dell mini 9 and 10v.

I haven't tried it but there are definately hardware differances between the dell and the HP so it may or may not work. I would use ideneb which has been proven to work and then just follow the instructions on wet paint version 2. These are similar to bobby pot lukcs directions but are more complete and so they actually work. Also never partition part of the drive to free space or you will lose it forever. I did that as per the directions and had to clone my disk to an external and format the drive again and clone it back so I could recover the missing half of my drive that doing that created

Thanks Newdeal. I am trying to decide between the hp 110, which has features that are attractive to me, and the dell mini 10v, which has an amazingly large community of people who support the hackintoshing of dell mini's. Check out the site - http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/mac-os-x/ - so you can see that I am not being ridiculous in saying that there is a tradeoff. Call me cowardly.

Its hard for me to say I have never used the dell 10V. I like the HP because the keyboard is nice, the trackpad is pretty good, the screen is not glossy, its easy to upgrade the ram and the battery (6 cell because I got the 110-1033) lasts for like 6 hours. I posted an updated tutorial on hackintoshing the 110, my computer has most things working that I care about. Definately there is no problem installing up to 10.5.7 on the HP, of course there are a couple incompatibilities but everything important works (I think just audio i/o and ethernet don't)

I used NBI 0.8.2 RC4 as an installer-flash this weekend. Works well, but you have to be careful post-install with the kext and dsdt settings. Wifi and screen resolution are working well. I only upgraded my 10.5.1 to 10.5.6 for now. No audio. Other things to test later.

Overall, I find OSX runs much better on my Dell Mini 9, than on this HP (110-1030CA). With further mods, I'll see if I can remedy that. :)

EDIT: OK, now sound works @100% volume (VoodooHDA; PCM output), also NetBookInstaller repaired my kernel 10.5.6 corruption and brought the mini back to booting. Also installed Quartz. TimeMachine backup to SDHC (local). Have the trackpad usable with click and two-finger scroll (Dell Mini version for Synaptics). So far, like most others, I don't have ethernet working and sleep is TBD -haven't had time to close the lid ... LOL. So I take back my previous criticsms ... the HP Mini110-1030CA is a nice HackinTosh afterall. :D

I'm a noob when it comes to Mac OS X.

What is the difference between NetbookInstaller and some of the other HP Mini OS X Installs? What is currently working with NetbookInstaller? (Just need some background info...)

slightly OT, but I'm currently using Netbookinstaller/Netbookmaker to try out Snow Leo; I was wondering how I could modify the contents of the ramdisk? any ideas?
TIA
