Mac OS X on the HP Mini: Turn it into a MacBook Mini!

Idea: Fastest noob or restore install method

New postby binglax09 » Wed Oct 07, 2009 9:33 pm

I am revising this first post in order to give a how to guide instead of looking through the whole topic. Here is a quick run down of how to do this easy install of OS X.

Needed:
Restore.dmg (Search TPB for "Mac HP Mini")
Uinstaller (Search google or download the HP essentials package)
8GB flash drive or similar USB media

Drive prep via Mac
- Format USB drive
- Using disk utility restore DMG to the flash drive
- Open Uinstaller & select the flash drive and check off PC_EFI then select install
- Copy Uinstaller to the USB drive

Installation
- Boot HP Mini via F9
- Let the system boot into OS X
- Using disk utility format the internal drive (this will delete everything!!!)
- Again within disk utility, use restore to set the USB drive as source and the internal drive as destination
- Once you have restored use Uinstaller on the internal drive just like you did on the USB drive

Done! The system should boot right up without a hitch... As for Windows only users, well I don't have a write up but I would try using either 1: A friends Mac 2: Transmac to install the DMG (although idono how to use Uinstaller on windows) or 3: Use VMware to run mac within windows for the time being....

If you want to revise this just let me know! any help would be great.

Well I made a extremely easy way to install 10.5.8 onto the Mini 1000/110. It takes about 30-40 minutes depending on the flash drive speed, once you have everything copied over to it. If anyone is interested this would take out ALL fixing steps that you have to go through with the iDeneb 1.3 image.

This would mean no more messing with kexts, updates, sleep fix and all that time consuming stuff that happens during a fresh install.

Advice? Hints? Tips? Criticism? Fixes? all is welcome!

One flaw that I have in the image is the system profiler states "There was an error while gathering this information" along with "no built-in audio" and memory coming up as 0 Mhz. everything works 100% though except the internal mic like always.

Edit: I meant 10.5.8 not 10.4.8!! major difference there.

Well I have a 100% working image. Here is what is needed if you used it....

- Download my DMG & UInstaller
- Restore 16GB USB flash with DMG
- Use UInstaller to unable flash drive boot
- Copy UInstaller 16GB USB drive
- Boot HP Mini 1000/110 with USB drive via F9
- Using Disk Utility restore DMG to internal hard drive
- Open Uninstaller and unable internal drive

DONE! everything will work 100%..

P.S. I will only torrent this file IF I can get some feedback here. If not then I'm not going to waste my upload speed (or lack there of)

binglax:

I am extremely interested in this install method, especially considering my failing attempts at installing iDeneb 1.3 on my mini 110. I am willing not only to give it a try, but also provide complete feedback and a description of my experiences to share on this forum.

Looking forward!

If you decide not to open it up as a torrent, I can setup an FTP account for you to upload the files.
Deal?
All the best,

Everything except the mic as always (although it might work as I have not tested it)

I just uploaded it so you are probably the only one as of yet. I will upload as often as I can but I'm on an island off of an island in the middle of no where so it will take a while.

60-70KB/s upload is the only way to go. I have no way to get it to any other connection and yes I am the only one with this file.
