HP Mini 110 vs 1000 comparison pictures

New postby JMacalinao » Wed Jul 01, 2009 12:27 am

For now, I can't find my Mini 2140 (my dad probably used it for work), but since I have the Mini 1000 at home, I took shots of them side-by-side.

I don't know if I'll have the time to review the 110, so just stay tuned for that (or maybe someone will be able to post a review earlier). But for now, just enjoy the pics :)

It appears the Mini 110 is longer than the 1000. Why is this? Could it be because the speakers are now on the bezel??

Probably not; the 2140 also has its speakers on the bezel, but it's not any longer than the 1000. It might be because they design the 110 around its board, or maybe just to compensate for the additional ports.

How does the screen look, compared to the 1000. Just a bright and vibrant? I do not mind the glossy screen, but the dust bugs me as well, and I would rather not deal with it because I will want to open up the bezel to clean it out all the time, which gives me more chance of breaking the bezel.

So, how does the 110 screen look?

Thanks for all your help

The screen is very similar to the 1000/2140 (if not identical), just without the glossy layer. :)

Are you able to sit the 110 in your lap, with the battery on and be able to view it at a viewable screen angle? Just wondering if that battery tilts the machine forward too much so that it does not give you a good angle to see the screen..

One more question, how much weight does the 6 cell battery add to the 110? Not much? Too much? Thanks!

Definitely; I'm currently sitting on a computer chair with the 110 on my lap, typing this at this very moment, and there's hardly any difference. I can still see what I'm typing even if the brightness is all the way down. (I'm in an office building, so you can probably imagine the lighting conditions here.)

The 6-cell battery does put a bit weight, probably putting the whole netbook to 2.8lbs or somewhere near that, but it doesn't feel heavy enough to make it a pain on your shoulder. The 2140 + 6-cell was worse in weight, so I should be thankful. :D

Well I JUST received my Mi 110. Currently installing Windows 7 on it. So far, I am actually surprised, I like it quite a bit. The battery buts adds a little weight, nothing major. The screen is bright and crisp. I was shocked they gave me the 160GB hd for free! So I got 3 free upgrades on this machine, bigger battery, faster processor and larger hard drive.

I will take some pics myself of the 1000 side by side with the 110 later this evening.

Re: ouch... the 6-cell is huge!

After seeing these pics I'm a bit reluctant ordering a 6-cell on the Mini 110.... it -really- sticks out compared to how other brands have solved the 6-cell issue!

How "thick" is the 110 with 6-cell on its highest place? Looks like 6cm or so.

Is the keyboard angle nice to work with? I always setup my keyboards to be completely flat (just like about every notebook standard has) but the Mini 110 is angled severely...

is this thing's fan like the old 1000? Constantly on and noisy? I don't know why so few of us complain about the noise. Is it because we are unlucky and got a lemon or because we are hermits?

I'm okay with the keyboard angle, since I've kinda got used to them, especially those desktop keyboards with the tabs behind them that gives them a certain angle. It isn't really severe, although that depends on your usual use of the keyboard. I'm also noticing that when the netbook's on the table, I found out that I barely place my hands/wrist on the palm rest. I don't know if that's good (hey, maybe that avoids CTS or something), but it's not a big deal for me.

It's probably down to your preference, if you really need a 6-cell. I do, though, so yeah. :D

I don't know about that... I don't mind the noise, since it's probably less noisy than an air conditioner, or my PC. I know that the 1000, too, has its fan turned on often, but not really noisy. Maybe you guys are sensitive to sound, I guess?
