New Mini 311 and OSX (311-1005TU)

Howdy,

Well I have just returned home from a honeymoon in Bangkok where i picked up a new HP Mini 311 from Panthip. (3gb,160gb,BT,3G,Wifi 'Broadcom')

Naturally I am very keep to try and get a working OSX install on this netbook.

From my searching it appears not many have tried an install yet as they are awaiting delivery.

What distro do you think is worth trying with this ION based netbook ?

Should I just try the tutorial that uses ideb 1.3 or is there somthing more specific I should look at ?

There are some ion based nettops that people have been installing osx on i would google that I think MSI makes one that has ion that people put osx on

So I have decided to try a vanilla install via the following tute.

So far so good.. Installed.. Welcome Video... Camera even worked to try and take a snapshot

Alrighty, Currently with just the vanilla install the following things dont work.

Wi-Fi (Broadcom)
WWAN
Sound
Trackpad is detected as a mouse


The following things appear to be working:

Video (picked up the correct res of 1024x768)
Bluetooth
Function keys seem to be working

Being that the 311 is so new.. i'm having a hard time getting some major things going such as Wi-Fi and Decent Video

Ethernet,sound,camera seem to work without to much drama.

I think ill try my luck with a leopard install... Seems like there has been alot more time by the community getting leo more established.

Well this is looking much more healthy.

I'm currently installing Leopard via a retail DVD image and wifi is working (inside the installer) without any tinkering !

Will report back whats working after the install finishes....

I just hope I can get a good video driver running at native res.

What is the current update, what is working, etc.? I'd like to add all the info. to the [ Mac OS X Compatibility Chart ]

Sorry for the lack of updates on this forum.

Alot more work has been going into getting 10.6 fully functional on the 311 Mini.

For the most up to date info, check out the active thread over on Insanly Mac where myself and a couple others are making some progress.

A quick update is:

Vanilla 10.6.1 RC3 Bootloader install has the following fully functional.

Ion Video with QE enabled and at native res (NVEnabler)
Bluetooth (Working OOB)
Card Reader (Working OOB)
Ethernet (Working OOB)
Camera (Working OOB)

Things that were working on:

Wifi (getting very close via DSDT Hack)
Sound (Works with Voodoo kext but is very static.)
Sleep (Havent played with it much as its not high on the priority list, but does not work at current)

The 311 Mini looks to be a VERY promising OSX device.

Basicly, once we get full sound support every function/component on the 311 is fully functional.
