Did that and no change. So looked around the web a bit.

MPC-HC has an ant-tearing capability. Which supports the just use MPC-HC approach.
http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/AntiTearing.html

Looking further and taking the link to gaming on-board there was some suggestion to set the vertical sync to "Force On" in the NVIDIA control pannel (under manage 3d settings). I did this (finding that mine was set to force off) and now no tearing.

This also solved my tearing in Windows Media Player.

I changed the vsync option to "Use 3D application setting" and back to "Force Off" and still no tearing, so not sure what has changed. I left mine set at "Use 3D Application Setting".
I suspect I messed this up originally when setting the 3D to max performance in the control panel when trying to get games to run better.

There was also some talk on Nvidia forums of driver issues and people going to previous version to solve this but i did not investigate further.

I just got an HD and connected to my 24" 1080p monitor - faultless playback (as far as I can tell)
I tried with 720p and 1080p video/trailers

This was in projector only mode.

Thanks for this guide. Worked perfectly the first time, solved all issues I was having... I spent hours trying to get .MKV's to play on my mini, and this finally did the trick!

have enabled mp4/mov source fdilters as well as xvid/mpeg4 and ms mpeg4 transform filters. however, when i tried to play a 1080p H264-mp4 movie (shawshank redemption) it gave me a error msg "cannot render the file". Anybody able to play 1080p mp4 files on MPC-HC?

Not sure what you're doing wrong... I played a 1080p mp4 perfectly. Did you follow the steps in this guide exactly? 720p/1080p run great with no problems after I configured my system according to the recommendations here.

hi
thanks for the guide. i've used it and now and i can see most 720p, 1080p.

just out of curiosity.
What CPU usage are you guys getting when playing 720p and 1080p?

for me 720p is always over 40%, and on 1080p never gets under 70%.
i also found a couple of 1080p videos where i get 100% on high action scenes, and dropped frames.
MPC-HC is reporting DXVA in all those files.

i don't know if that's normal behaviour or i should expect a lower cpu usage.

i am using win7 with the latest nvidia drivers.

best regards

About 20% at 720p and 40% - 1080p...
Haven't seen any dropped frames even on 90mbit 1080p video...

Animated subtitles can eat lot of CPU. And as I know audio decoding is also software (so 5.1 AC-3 should also eat much cpu)
Also check that filters and shaders are all turned off...

BTW, have anyone seen hardware Divx/Xvid decoders, audio decoders?
BTW2, what are DXVA equirements? I have couple of AVC video's that can't be played using hardware acceleration (nor CUDA in CoreAVC, nor DXVA).

What is the best mp3/mp4 player out in the market right now? I was thinking of buying an ipod, since i have one, and well it satisfies me. However i was wondering if anyone is into mobile techs, and could give me a comparative analysis of what's the best mp3/mp4 player out there, in case i change my mind in buying the ipod? by the "best" i mean: Human user interface-is it easy friendly. Memory size: How many songs can you input using standard mp3/wav files. Durability: is it durable? how long will it last before the HD crashes or something like that?

I have instaled Direct x, CCCP, and the latest Ion driver form nvidia.

When i try to play any 720p or a 1080p it does not play smooth, i have over 6TB of mkv 720p and 1080p moovies, my main focus on buy this machine is also that it can run my hope theather pc, i will use xbmc on it.

Not an expert, other may have more detail but..

1. follow the first post in this thread
2. You don't need CCCP with MPC-HC, so maybe that's what's messing you up?

I just wanted to say *thanks* for posting this info. My newly acquired 311c (N270) was stutering and spluttering when playing MKVs. I was using MPC-HC, but hadn't updated the settings! I had also downloaded CCCP. Having just noticed this thread, following a recent bump I followed the instructions on page 1, then restarting MPC-HC did the trick, now watching 1080p movies is a joy, no more than 55% CPU :-)

Thanks, a great forum.

Does this guide still apply to HD playback issues or does the new Nvidia Beta drivers and Adobe 10.1 Beta 2 fix this issue?

Just wondering, as the original post is kind of old and I was wondering if perhaps there have been other updates released to address the issues we are having.

Thanks.
