Disable Touchpad?

New postby kollision » Thu Nov 05, 2009 1:20 am

Hello,

I just bought this machine last week. It's really great, however there is one problem. Regarding the touchpad, can I disable it? I saw for some older touchpads, there are options to disable once a USB mouse is connected, but that option is not in the properties.

Thanks

I think DELL Touchpad driver will fit your situation.
It will disable the touchpad when USB mouse is connected.

Dell touchpad driver installed ok on mine. Couple of issues..

1. The popup over the toolbar icon is blank, but just double click to get the setup page up
2. It can disable the touchpad when an external mouse is plugged in but it does not re-enable it when it is removed (you have to reboot for that)

It does support the circular pad movements and zoom. Not multi-touch though.

In addition to these DELL (Alps) drivers there is a thread discussing enabling multitouch aspects. However, I have been unable to get the extra tab in the mouse controls to appear.

Any updates on this? I can't stand the trackpad on this, especially when a USB mouse is connected... I would love to find a way to disable it temporarily (Ie: when a usb mouse is active).

You can try this program
http://code.google.com/p/touchfreeze/

I haven't tried it yet but may if it gets too annoying.

nice, I'll try that out once I get my mini. Meanwhile, I've read about disabling the touchpad tapping/clicking action, so you strictly have to use the buttons to make clicks. This way, you may move the cursor but not accidentally click anywhere...

Yeah, I disabled the double tap as well. The touchpad is uber sensitive.

Personally, I'd rather just disable double tap than disable the touchpad altogether, especially with the Nano receiver problem ATM. :|

I just modified the double click interval time, using the mouse click setting dialog. Now it works great and I don't accidentally do double clicks when typing around. I, too, was very annoyed from the accidental double clicks while typing. Now it is just great and I can use the touchpad, too, if I need to for gesture scrolling, etc...

I've been going nuts with this trackpad issue.

I've installed the touch freeze app and so far it seems to be working well for preventing my cursor from moving, but im still scrolling when i don't mean to, still a scroll is better than jumping all over where im going to type.

Definatly an improvment but lets hope that ALPS do the decent thing and release a decent set of drivers for their trackpad!
