BatteryBar is a simple and easy-to-use battery meter that monitors the status of your battery and displays your battery’s status in the taskbar. We have a couple of Pro licenses up for grabs!

Update: If you didn’t enter or do not win, you can still get BatteryBar Pro for 50% off (link below). Winners will be contacted soon. Chosen at random:

  • Kyle
  • Zoltan
  • Mac
  • uglyfido (twitter)
  • jaredwestfall (twitter)

So far BatteryBar has been one of the most accurate battery life estimators out there–not only does it estimate remaining battery life, but it also estimates the amount of time until your battery is fully charged. It supports Windows 7 and works with all the HP Mini’s (and netbooks).

BatteryBar constantly monitors the status of your battery as you use your laptop. As it monitors your battery, it keeps historical data on your battery and provide you with a very accurate estimate of how much time is remaining on your battery.

Chris from Osiris Development has been generous enough to sponsor a giveaway here at MyHPMini and is offering five licenses of his BatteryBar Pro software, which is normally $9.95 per license. He is also offering, for a limited time, [50% off the BatteryBar Pro] edition for MyHPMini users.

BatteryBar Pro offers more features than the free BatteryBar edition (which can be downloaded here), such as customizing low and critical alerts, changing the BatteryBar theme, getting beta and stable release updates and showing low and critical alerts.

Giveaway Rules and How to Enter:

  • Open to anyone in the world, limited to one Pro license per winner.
  • For non-twitter users: post a comment below and be sure to say thank-you to Chris!
  • For twitter users: RT @OsirisDev @myhpmini Get BatteryBar Pro for 1/2 price or enter giveaway contest for chance to win a free license! http://bit.ly/8qBJvT
  • (Optional) Follow @OsirisDev and @myhpmini on twitter
  • Winners will be chosen randomly
  • Giveaway will end Sunday 29th

My laptop has not had any sort of built-in battery time estimation, whether it be in Vista, Windows XP, or 7. I will definitely be trying this product out, and hopefully I can snag a free license to the pro version!

Thanks Chris/Osiris Development! And thanks MyHPMini for featuring them!

    Hello Mr. Chris Thompson!

Thanks for creating such a great product and allowing a free version for us to have! It’s been such a big help for me installing your Battery Bar program on my HP. I tried out the 30 day trial and it’s got a lot of nifty preference settings that were pretty helpful too! I really enjoyed the Pro version so I hope to be able to snag one of these licenses too! =)

Thanks Chris, great new toy…ehh….tool :) . I however ran into some problems during installation with the default security settings of the .NET 2.0 installation and a popup saying “RegisterFrameworkLibrary has encountered a problem and needs to close.” For all who experience the same, it can be fixed by setting the trust of your Internet zone to full in your local .NET configuration.

Ok, how to do this. You need the .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration tool, or speaking in filenames mscorcfg.msc. That config tool however is not installed per default with .NET 2.0 unlike in the 1.0 an 1.1 versions. You have two choices, either download the .NET 2.0 SDK (some 400MB from Microsoft) or if you have access to a machine where this or VS2005 is installed you can follow this guide to copy the required 5 files to your local machine and register them: http://www.emmet-gray.com/Articles/CodeAccessSecurity.htm

Then it is easy, start the “Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration” from within your Administrative Tools, go to “Adjust Zone Security”, “Make changes to this computer” and set “Internet” to “Full Trust”. Now you can install BatteryBar and afterwards reduce trust to the default level again. Voila.

Eventually thats worth a free license ;) , if not I’m happy if I could help. It took me some time to figure that out.

I’ve been using BatteryBar Free for the past couple of days and it’s amazing how much more info it shows than any Windows 7 gadgets etc out there. I didn’t even know my battery held such a short charge, so I’ve learned something! Thanks for the great and =useful= program!
